With the opening of our second
office at 44-01 Francis Lewis Blvd (at Northern Blvd), a new
interventional radiology suite was designed to provide minimally
invasive vascular procedures on an outpatient basis.
The Interventional Radiology
section has initially concentrated on two areas: Dialysis access
management and venous access. A board-certified,
fellowship-trained Interventional Radiologist with Certificate of
Added Qualification (CAQ) in Vascular and Interventional Radiology
performs every procedure. A full time ACLS trained nurse monitors
the patient during the procedure. A set-up and monitored recovery
area is also available.
Dialysis
Access Management: This includes evaluation and
treatment of failing and clotted native AV fistulas as well as AV
grafts. Procedures such as fistulogram, angioplasty, thrombectomy,
thrombolysis, and venous stenting are performed on an outpatient
basis with immediate scheduling and treatment. Our goal is the
rapid return of patient to routine dialysis while minimizing the
discomfort and inconvenience traditionally associated with such
procedures.
In addition, placement of permanent
dialysis catheters (such as Tesio Catheters) can be scheduled on
an outpatient basis. Recent PT/PTT and CBC are needed.
Oncologic
Venous Access: Placement of subcutaneous ports for
chemotherapy will be available without the scheduling delays often
associated with other facilities providing this service. The
patients can be discharged with the port already accessed for
immediate use, if indicated. Of course, the port can be removed at
the same facility when it is no longer needed. Recent PT/PTT and
CBC are needed for these procedures.
MSR interventional service
is headed by Dr. Wales Shao. Dr. Shao received his Bachelor degree
at Johns Hopkins University and Medical degree at Tufts University
(AOA). He completed a Diagnostic Radiology residency as well
Vascular and Interventional fellowship at Columbia-Presbyterian
Medical Center. Drs. David Rogers, John Derosa, and Erik Rios will
also perform procedures at our Bayside office.
An experienced staff supports the
interventional radiologists. Our head nurse, Lydia Brady, R.N. has
more than 20 years of experience in
interventional radiology.
