Sonograms are safe and easy. The patient will be comfortably positioned on an exam table and a clear gel will be applied to the area of the body being examined. Using a hand-held device called a transducer, ultrasound signals are sent and received, instantly being displayed on a computer monitor for review. Generally, the ultrasound will take 15-30 minutes. Patients can return to their normal daily activities immediately following the exam.
