Digital Mammography

Digital mammography is the latest mammography technology to examine the breasts. Instead of radiographs, digital mammography uses digital technology that produces images of the breast which provides for a faster and more comfortable examination. Digital mammography requires less radiation, therefore reducing the patient's exposure to radiation. It has also been shown that digital mammography may increase cancer detection in patients with dense breast.

At Main Street Radiology, we believe in an integrated breast imaging service. Therefore, if you require additional mammography or breast ultrasound, a dedicated breast imager is supervising the overall evaluation. Because we believe in treating the patient, an integrated interpretation will be rendered, making problem solving easier. For your convenience, when previous outside mammograms are submitted for comparison, your images are digitized and stored at our facility so that your prior images can always be used to your benefit.

There are dedicated women's waiting areas in addition to a specialized female technologist to perform your mammogram and your breast ultrasound.

The American Medical Association and the American College of Radiology recommend that women 40 years old and older receive an annual mammogram. In addition, the National Cancer Institude recommends that women who are at an increased risk for developing breast cancer (i.e. genetics, previous breast cancer, etc.) may need to begin having annual mammograms before the age of 40.

To better serve you, we ask that you please complete this mammography questionnaire prior to your exam.
